2 and 5

Sunday was the boys birthday. Yes, that's right: they share the same birthday! (three years apart) We decided on a pirate/star wars/thomas the train party. (couldn't leave anybody out!)
Here is the cake I made. A chocolate rich cake made with honey instead of sugar. And a cream cheese frosting with black food dye (I used ridiculous amounts to get the color just right) I'm not by any stretch of the imagination a cake decorator, but kids never figure that stuff out and they love it anyway!)

Light sabor and Star Wars books...
And a very cool new bike!

Melissa and Doug wooden tool kit..

And Thomas the Train...
which still has not left his side!
Oh and I had one of those "cause and effect" realization moments after the kids dug into the cake. Black frosting.... black mouths. Like something from the Lord of the Rings (or the band- KISS), it was a little unreal!

We had so much fun! A memorable day to be sure!

Family Room makeover (mini)

This is what my family room looked like before, a little too much red and too much brown and I was getting sick of looking at so much red. I think it's a great accent color, but primary needed a change.

And this poor sad chair and it's drabby cushions had seen it's last days.

I found this gorgeous fabric at IKEA awhile back. It's the kind of fabric you get goosebumps over. I loved it so much and have not (until now) had the heart to cut up the fabric. Just so beautiful. But this was deserving of such fabric.

Ta-da!

The cushions had some pretty new pillows made and the old cushion covers put back on (and cleaned) Yes, it's a tiny makeover, but a refreshing break to the way it was. Ahhh, much better.

Motherhood and the Mysteries of Life

This is Soeren! We were delighted to receive our 3D ultrasound yesterday. It was very hard getting to see him as he loved his fists in his face, at one point I thought he was trying to poke his eyes and said "stop that!". It really is so miraculous and beautiful though and such a special moment for Jake and I. Delighted to see he really is a Moya (notice the nose and head shape- such a Moya) He weighs in at a little over 3.5 pounds right now.
We had a funny moment in the doctor's office right after: the nurse mentioned my glucose test from last time and said "your sugar is actually really low" and then added "you need to be eating more often"- to which Jake and I burst into laughter. I think that task is already being accomplished! I can't wait to hold this little guy, in the meantime I'm making these...

burp cloths in such fun colors!

Mothers Day was fantastic: my sweet husband and children know how much I've been craving citrus in this pregnancy. Really, I can't get enough of the stuff. My favorite thing to drink is a mixture of Sparkling Mineral Water and Grapefruit juice. So delicious! I woke up to a citrus themed house, all decorated with love for Mama. Breakfast in bed was wonderful and topped off with an orange julius (Yum!) and fresh squeezed lemonade. This lady was happy!

I couldn't get over how cute this card was from Abi. Notice the very round and pregnant Mama. It just melted my heart! Hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day too!

visits and growing babies

Here are some pictures of my dad's visit. It was so nice to have him here. And yes, the bonding and wonderful grandfather/grandson time was fantastic.

simplify

In an attempt to simplify and to bring less stress and more peace to my life, I am sticking with blogger and leaving my facebook. Yes, it's a big step, but I think I'll find it satisfying and a little more personal. More time for my kids, sitting on my nest, and maybe even a good book or two!
So yes, I'm still here. Pictures will soon come of the growing belly (almost 30 weeks now) and I'm glad to be here.

Happy November!

Wish I could show y'all what I've been working on, but they are all gifts and those people would find out. (and we don't want lovely surprises spoiled). Sorry I haven't posted anything amazing, but I'm sure something is just around the corner. In the mean time, Happy November! What a marvelous month. So thankful for so many things!

a fresh new batch.

I love these washcloths. They work so well. I've been mass producing them in the evening when Jake and I watch an old movie together.

Somebody had a major growth spurt and needed a larger size of cloth diapers. So here is a fresh new batch for little guy. I loved how these turned out.

tutorial on re-covering pot holders

Take one old potholder (one with stains, burn marks, etc)

sew (right sides together) a pillowcase with a lovely fabric.

Slip the old potholder in the pillow case, close up last side and sew a finishing hem all the way around.

Finish by sewing quilted lines throughout, binding everything together and adding texture.

And there you go (perfect for a recession)your newly recovered pot holder!!
